Ramayana Part C Notes: Sugreeva's Story, starts off by explain the unimaginable strength of Vali. There are many things that I can relate to that has great strength but not as measurable as Vali's to retell a story. The first thought that came to mind is the recent Hurricanes that our country has been plagued by. Hurricane Harvey and Irma has shown great strength. Another symbol of great strength is the "king of the jungle" a Lion. I think switching the characters to an animal story would be a great idea. When the Author stated" No lance could pierce his chest. When he strode across the earth mountains shook..." I instantly thought of a Lion. Cali also took half the strength of anyone who would try to fight him after he won. I also found, when the author talked about Vali not stepping on Mount Matanga or his skull would burst, interesting because how can such a powerful godly figure not be able to step on any mountain he wants. The Foolish Timid Rabbit The story is entertaining for the audience in my opinion, it reminded me of the movie "Chicken Little", when he would always yell "The Sky Is Falling!". This story made me think about a few things, one being, as humans we sometimes tend to follow false tellings or believe things that are not true and run with it. Just like the animals were doing with the rabbit. I think it would have been a great idea to change the ending as well. Possibly, to do something like shaking up the King Lion when they returned to the rabbits sleeping place or maybe having the Earth actually break apart. While reading through what we will be encountering through out the semester, a few things caught my attention. I was not aware that we could check out Kindles, with books downloaded on it already! I am excited to use this resource in "OUr" Library! For week three and week four, I am planning on choosing the Narayan. Ramayana (Kamban). In the comments it says this reading is an excellent introduction to the Ramayana based on the Tamil version. Also, reading the Reading Guide was quite entertaining, the best part is on pg.5, where it says Dasharatha gets special rice to get his wives pregnant.
