Reading Notes: The Mahabharata Part B

Image
The stories that I am interested in is the story of Bhima and Hidima. This is the perfect opportunity to retell a story using the Wizard of Oz setting. When I was reading about the Pandavas escaping it reminded me of Dorothy and the rest of her crew escaping to get to Oz land. Throughout  my story I will have different creatures coming out of the forest playing the "man-eating asuras and rakshasas. I like how the original story is so vivid in how they explain, the painfulness of them traveling in the forest. I think the character for Bhima should be the lion because lions show strength even though the lion in the Wizard of Oz. Bhima carried all of the others on his back through the forest. I like how Bhima is portrayed as this character that watches over and protects the people that is in the forest with him.  The rakashsa's play an essential part in this story and as I was reading the rakshasa's reminded me of the monkeys and the trees that came a live in the movie. Th

Reading Notes: The Mahabharata Part A

Image
I enjoyed reading Part A of The Mahabharata! The story that caught my attention most is "Bhima and the Nagas". First, I would like to say, listening and reading to the story really has helped me visualize what was happening in the story. In the beginning of the story Duryodhana poisoned Bhimas food and tried to kill him. I am going to retell this story by keeping the plot the same but just changing the characters and setting. Duryodhana obviously had much hate towards Bhima because he casted him to the Ganges. In my story I can have Bhima poisoned and casted to the spiders den. Instead of having the spiders bite him and the poison from the snakes balance out his consciousness, I could have the poison from the snakes to be the reason why the spiders don't bite him but have the spider webs squeeze the poison out of his body for him to regain consciousness. Then he could burst out of the spider webs and scatter the spiders. Then be approached by someone, I'm not sure

Week 5 Planning: Ramayana culture

Image
In this post I want to talk about the influence of the Ramayana on Hindu beliefs. Hinduism is practiced commonly in South Asia. The interesting things I have found out about Hinduism are, it is the oldest religion, some refer to it as the "eternal religion" because it is know to extend beyond the history of humans beings. Hinduism is also know to be a combiniation  of many Indian cultures and traditions. The Ramayana tradition of this culture is taught widely through-out South Asia just like the tales of homer was taught. Rama who is one of the main characters in the Ramayana is a god who is idolized and his lessons have a huge impact on Hindu beliefs. I am suprised to say that Vishnu is apart of the Hindu trinity. The other two gods that are apart of it is Shiva and Brahama. Rama is the seventh avatar of Vishnu. in the Ramayana he came to Earth as a god of strength and he defeated Ravana who was embodied with demonic behavior. Rama is a very positive character in the Ramay

Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues Part B

Image
After watching Part B of Sita Sings the Blues, I realized I could write a part B to my Willy Wonka story. I like how the story showed the commitment and despair of Sita. In my story I want to show that same despair however, I can switch the story up and make it to where the children she is pregnant with is actually for Ravana. That would be a pretty cool plot twist because she would have to prove her purity to Rama once again and she would not be able to. After  that I can make the story really my own because I can decided whether or not Rama will take back Sita or if she will go back to Ravana. Another switch up I thought about doing is making the twins that Sita had actually be rebels instead of learning to speak highly of Rama. It would be rather easy to come up with that , if I decided to make Ravana their father and not Rama. In Sita Sings the Blue they are found singing "Rama is just". I was thinking I should make them chant unruly things about Rama. I think it would be

Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues

Image
Sita Sings the Blues is an entertaining short film. I really enjoyed how they talked about the story and then the characters acted it out. The story is very similar to the book we read. In my next story I would like base it off of the  character Ravana, because watching the movie made  me realize something. I realized that Ravana never did anything wrong except take Sita. Even when Sita rejected him he did not force himself upon her. I was surprised he did not because he had the audacity to take Sita from Rama. I am thinking about retelling this story by making the character in my story have one really bad flaw but id genuinely a good person. I think we kind of oversaw the fact that Ravana is not a bad person around the clock. The bad flaw in my story will represent him kidnapping Sita. Week 4 Story, The Lion King

Image
Roooaaaarr ! Yells Harold the almighty Lion King of The Jungle of Eden.                                                                                              Image Information: King Harold roaring                                                  https://www.zedge.net/wallpaper/9864877/ The King of the Jungle silenced all the creatures near and far. His strength and power trembles the Earth when he roars. He earned his roar over the Kingdom by providing the Fountain of Health to the animals who were plagued by sickness and death. These animals now have freedom from sickness and diseases and for that the Lion King received immeasurable strength and power. Whomever confronts him with the desire to fight and defeat him is plagued with terrible diseases for the rest of their lives. Milo, the King of Elephants and brother of Harold approached him and said, " Brother, there is an evil one that is challenging you. He goes by the name Razor. He will be here before dawn."

Reading Notes: Ramayana Part D

Image
Ramayana Part D Notes: In the story "Memento From Rama" reminds me of the movie Shrek because Hanuman is going on a quest for Sita. Even though he isn't going to save his swap unlike Shrek was. When Hanuman showed up to the luxurious mansion, he was appalled at the fact that Sita may be living for Ravana happily but it wasn't her, he soon found her in Asoka Vana very unkempt. I was surprised when I read Sita was preparing to hang herself. I must replace the shock I felt when I retell the story! I was disappointed that Hanuman did not take Sita back with him so I will make sure that happens in my story or atleast for him to try. Ravana In Council, is the turning point of the story to me because as they are talking about how they need to capture and destroy the monkey and who sent him, I picture a group of upset individuals in a conference or maybe even in a court room. Commander and chief explains the few ways Ravana could have gone about capturing Sita but he chos

Reading Notes: Ramayana Part C

Ramayana Part C Notes: Sugreeva's Story, starts off by explain the unimaginable strength of Vali. There are many things that I can relate to that has great strength but not as measurable as Vali's to retell a story. The first thought that came to mind is the recent Hurricanes that our country has been plagued by. Hurricane Harvey and Irma has shown great strength. Another symbol of great strength is the "king of the jungle" a Lion. I think switching the characters to an animal story would be a great idea. When the Author stated" No lance could pierce his chest. When he strode across the earth mountains shook..." I instantly thought of a Lion. Cali also took half the strength of anyone who would try to fight him after he won. I also found, when the author talked about Vali not stepping on Mount Matanga or his skull would burst, interesting because how can such a powerful godly figure not be able to step on any mountain he wants. Dundubi's Story: He

Feedback Strategies

I really enjoyed the Presence, Not Praise article! What caught my attention was when Grosz, talked about the negative reactions children can have to having too much praise. Some children may not perform as well after the praise or respond to the praise by quitting. I believe presence does boost the confidence of children because it shows someone cares. In absence children seem to loose focus and also not perform as well. The link to How to Craft Constructive Feedback is informative because it gives an outline to how to give constructive criticism . Observe, Describe, Suggest is a logical way to give criticism. It is important to always describe how and article or reading made you feel because that will help the Author know if they were successful at how they wanted to protray their story.                                                                                     Image information: Criticism is a gift                        https://thewineingercompany.com/constructively

Project Research, Storybook.

Image
I have decided to focus my storybook on the Incarnation of Krishna and his time on Earth. I began my research my reading some short stories about his life from the book Krishna Krishna - . Below I will be discussing three stories and how I plan to retell the stories. Incarnation of Krishna In this story there is a positive and negative. Devaki, whom is carrying the divine Krishna is shinning brightly as a symbol of the divine prophecy, vindication. Kansa was still worried about his death approaching him because of the birth of the eight-son and spends all his time trying to find the right time to kill his sister and the eight-son. I have brainstormed the thought of turning the characters into a cinderella story because Krishna is showing the potential to save the Earth from its problems and he is not even born yet and it reminded  me of the Cinderella story. Childhood Pranks of Krishna  In this story, they are celebrating the occasion of Krishna. Pounds of butter and mi

Week 3 Story : Willy Wonkas Tourmentor

Image
Portfolio Link : https://247indianepics.blogspot.com One early morning in the Chocolate Factory, Willy Wonka was brushing his teeth with mint chocolate tooth paste when his sister, Sierra ran the bathroom in complete fear! She cries, "The Father of the Cream of Chocolate family over yonder slashed the tires on my chocolate-mobile! Im terrified of what they may do next!"  "What is the Father's name?" asked Willy. "His name is Omega, but brother wait, he has a voluptuous beautiful wife that oozes out white chocolate at the top of every hour her name is Reye, the Queen of White Chocolate." "Oh, heavenly does she sound, I need her in my life! Tell me more." Willie Wonka inquires and forgets about the damage done to his sisters car.  Sierra becomes filled with excitement when she realizes her manipulating plan is working! She begins to elaborate on Reye's voluptous curves that oozes white chocolate and her beautiful re

Reading Notes: Ramayana Part B

I decided to lay out my notes differently this time. I wanted to focus more on the characters to see what they reminded me of when considering characteristics and what can I relate them to. In Sugreeva's Story, I was thinking about making Vali weak as a plot twist because they admired him because of how strong and swift he is. He also worshipped Shiva, and re-writing the story for Vali to turn his back on him would be interesting as well. Since, Vali would not be this strong character I could depict Mayavi as the character of strength and he could overcome Vali. I was surprised when Rama shot the bow and it traveled a far distance but did not pierce anyone or anything. I think I can use that in the retelling of the story but Im quite sure how yet.                                                                      Image Info: Vali fighting his brother                          https://comicvine.gamespot.com/sugreeva/4005-26968/images/ Bibliography: Author:  The Ramayana

Reading Notes: Narayans Ramayana

Image
As I was reading Narayans Ramayana, I surprised to come across many different stories. I was expecting a long Novel type of reading not multiple stories. I am not familiar with any of the material. However, the stories are still intriguing. I actually think it is a good thing I don't have any prior knowledge of most of these stories because I can look at them from a clear perspective. I am going to write about a few of the stories that are intriguing to me below in my post!                                                       Story of Rama's Initiation  As I am reading about Rama's initiation, I like how the story began by talking about how the King is fulfilled in his duties and how committed he is to being the ruler of Kosala. It made me even more surprised when Sage Viswamirtha asked the King to take his son, Rama with him to help. There are a few ways that came to mind for me to retell the story and one of them would be to picture the characters in a basketball

Feedback Thoughts....

Image
I read the "5 Tips For Taking Feedback Like a Champ" article and I enjoyed the reading. The two tips that I could relate most to are, "reminding yourself that having growth areas is a good thing- it means you haven't makes out on your potential". I think it is important as a human being to continuously grow because there isn't any progress in life if we do not grow internally. The next, tip that I like is, "Find the positive intentions behind your deficiency, and notice where it's a strength". I love the idea in any situation, turning negatives into positives. Often times, humans default to speaking on the negatives or focusing on it too much. The next article I read is "Eight things students should d when they make a mistake". I liked how insightful this article is to college students because as students we always need to know that there is help, which is a topic they discussed. We are all faced with stress and knowing that there a

Indian Epics: Topic Brainstorm

Image
Topics Krishna and Rukmini:  I am interested in this story because it reminds me of the story Romeo and Juliet. As humans we are always wanting things that are not necessarily good for us, like Rukmini and Krishna. Rukmini is Krishnas mortal enemy. I do not know much about this topic and but I can't wait to learn more about how Krishna fights for Rukmini heart. The way I am going to retell the story is to relate it to a struggling softball player, wanting to hit a home run over the fence. The point of the story will be to emphasize perseverance to reach a goal. http://ackguide.blogspot.com/2015/07/guide-krishna-and-rukmini.html Parashurama: Sixth Incarnation of Vishnu: The story of Bhrigu is interesting to me because I find it a little humorous that, Bhrigu gives his daughter-in-law and her mother sacred rice to bear children. I am interested in learning what it is about rice that helps he fertility of women. This story also talks about incarnation and I am a little famil
