Reading Part B: Seven Secrets of Goddess

Image
This week I decided to do a post over the Seven Secrets of Goddess. I found it interesting that most of the gods that we have talked about this semester is very violet when it comes to someone threatening their place as king or god. I was surprised to see how a god would kill their own family because they feel threatened that they would take their place. When I think of a god, I think of someone peaceful, graceful and etc. Therefore, when I listened to the video, "Seven Secrets of Goddess" I was shocked to  hear Gaia ate his own children to keep them from taking over his thrown. I think this week I am going to write a story about Willy Wonka being threatened. I think it could be an interesting story to have someone come to the factory and try to take his factory from him. I haven't decided if ima make it a family member or an enemy.  The King of the Thrown  Bibliography

Reading Part B: 7 Secrets from Hindu Calendar Art Chp. 2

Image
In the beginning of Seven Secrets from Hindu Calendar Narayan's Secret, they show a picture of Narayan waking up. When Narayan wakes up the call this the moment that the world becomes into being. Narayan is known as a great and when he sleeps the world does not exist. I find that a bit extreme. It made sense whenever the video talked about the urgency for the Greeks to be heroes, the Christians to be saved and the Muslims to surrender to their god. The urgency is there because these religions do not believe in re-birth. Therefore, they all feel the need to be accomplished in the eyes of their god while they are here on earth. However, Hindus believe in re-birth!  I find it interesting that Narayan sleeps on an ocean of still milk. Narayan is quite powerful in the world of Hindu gods. The milk represents possibilities and all things emerge from the milk when Narayan opens his eyes. What I am understanding from the video is when Narayan sleeps all things are still and do not exi...

Reading Part A: 7 Secrets from Hindu Calendar Art Chp. 1

Image
The beginning of this video starts off by showing an image of Shivas family. Shiva was known as a mountain mendicant. His wife is the Goddess Parvati who is a mountain princess. They had two children one named Ganesha who has a head of an Elephant and Kartikeya who holds a spear. While watching the video I could not help but to wonder why Kartikeya was holding a spear and why Ganesha head is a head of an elephant. Like the video says, some may find it hard to accept that hindus have different gods and goddesses. I think it is weird that the gods and goddesses have different physical characteristics, such as the elephant head and four arms. I also agree with what the video was saying about Hinduism and their different gods. I don't understand how they worship so many different gods but that it is normal to them because that is all they know. As I was listening to the video, I wondered what is the significance behind a mango. The mango is what Kartikeya and Ganesha raced around the...

Reading Notes Part B: Why the Owl is Not the King of Birds

Image
Why the  Owl is Not the King of Birds is a relatable story in my opinion. I am choosing this story to focus in because it reminded me of a high school prom situation. The birds realized that there was not a king for the birds but there are kings for fish, humans, and beasts. The Crows and the Owls never got along with each other. Therefore, the owls and the crows did not get a long. The birds decided that the owl should be the king and the crow threw a fit. In result of that, the birds made the turtle dove the king of the birds.  In my retelling of the story I want to create a high school scene between the crow and the owl. I think is t would be a pretty cool idea to have a drama filled background story to why the crow and owl dislike each other. I am thinking about having the story lead up to Prom night. There we will see what bird shall be king of all birds ! I think bird drama sounds pretty funny.  King Owl Bibliography:  Wh...

Reading Notes Part A: Measure of Rice

Image
This week I have decided to continue the Jatakas Tales! The story that is most interesting to me is the "Measure of Rice story". I like this story for many reasons. The main reason is, I liked how to horse dealer "checked" the new valuer. In the story the king was feeling greedy and wanted to make more wealth. However, the people of the town and the horse dealer was not as naive as he thought they were going to be. The king went out and got a new valuer. The new valuer was a poor man and he wanted the new valuer to increase the value of everything so he can gain more wealth. However the horse dealer went to the old valuer for advice and he went to question the new valuer in front of the king. The new valuer ended up getting showed up by his questions and ran away from the crowd of people laughing at him. In my retelling of the story I want to create the same thing except from a Chocolaty perspective. I could have Willy Wonka turn into a money hungry boss. Willy Wonk...

Reading Notes B: Krishna !

Image
Today I am continuing my series over Krishna and his childhood. As Krishna became older and older he began to love music. Krishna became really good at playing the flute. He memorized people with the way he played the flute and they would surround him dancing. While playing his flute, Krishna had his eye on one person. Her name was Radha. She had the purest heart! Krishna and Radha grew up together so they already shared a special bond. The interesting part is Radha was tested by the Gopies to see how faithful she was to Krishna. They told her to drink warm milk and with out hesitation she drank the milk. Instead of the milk scorning her tongue, Krishna's tongue grew to have blisters on it! The only way for his tongue to heal was by the help of Radha. In my retelling of the story, I can write a chocolaty love story. Krishna and Radha Bibliography: Radha's Love

Reading Notes A: Krishna

Image
This week I have decided to continue my journey on Krishna life. I will be watching Krishna's epified series. I want to focus on Krishna's mouth. One day Yashoda heard that Krishna was eating mud. As a parent I would be quite surprised and appalled if I heard my son was eating mud. Yashoda then went and found Krishna and asked him to open up his mouth. Krishna hesitated. However, when Krishna did open his mouth. Krishna's mother saw everything! She saw the sun, moon, stars, the different worlds and different creatures. In my next story telling, I think it would be pretty hard to incorporate this story and the chocolatey theme that I have. However, anything is possible I just have to get a little creative! I was thinking I could have Krishna sneak into the chocolate factory and start eating all the chocolate in the laboratory and then his mom finds out! It would be pretty interesting to see how Krishna would sneak past the Oompa-Loompas! Image Info :  Inside Krishnas...

Reading post B : Jatakas Tales.

Image
For my second reading this week, I decided to continue the Jatakas Tales! While I was reading the different stories I found myself most interested in the story about the Crane and the Crab. The Crane is quite the trickster in this story. However, the Crab came out on top! In my retelling of the story I think it would be cool to do a Dr.Seuss thing because of how the crane took the fish one by one to the pond that really wasn't there. I can hear my story now. Lol! 1 fish, 2 fish, 3 fish, FOUR! Unfortunately, they all died. Then the Crane stumbled upon the Crab. The Crab did not let him get away with such terrible actions. He was more of a trickster than the Crane! I cannot wait to start this story because I am going to deviate away from my chocolaty theme.                                                                   ...

Reading post A : Jatakas Tales.

Image
First I would like to talk about the story, "The Monkey and the Crocodile". As I was reading the story, I was enjoying it. However, I thought the ending was a little dry. I was disappointed. It was clever for the money to use the Crocodile to get to the other side of the Bank. I actually did not know that when Crocodiles opened their mouth to eat, they closed their eyes. If I were to retell the story I would make  the ending a little more interesting. I am not completely discrediting the ending of the story because it  is clever. I am thinking about changing the characters to a vampire theme because the mother of the crocodile wanted the monkeys heart. So, it is only right that I make it a vampire story! Right?! The one thing that I did like about how the story was told is the crocodile found a way to get close to capturing the monkey!                                         ...

Reading Notes: Krishna Part B

Image
Now on to Part B of Krishna's Story! I get to see more of Krishna's childhood with these Epified Episodes! In the first episode Krishna showed his divinity by providing the village with food even though the cows were taken by Bramah. I think it is pretty cool how humble Krishna is and he managed to take care of the village. The fact that Bramah bowed to him to acknowledge his divinity! Krishna is quite the trickster. Krishna's Love In my next story I must include the fact that he is a trickster. In the following videos, dharma plays a huge role in the story. Dharma is also important in the Hinduism religion. Everyone who practice Hinduism practice dharma. When Krishna arrived at Mathura, he used his strength to solve problems when he became on the wrong side of the people of the village. Krishna healed an old woman of her disabilities. He did it with love! This is why I absolutely like Krishna. He always did things with grace. Bibliography:  Epified:Krishna

Reading Notes: Krishna Part A

Image
This week I decided to do my reading notes over Krishna! I have been waiting all semester to read about Krishna. I am so excited ! While watching Epified, I admired Krishna because people hated him before he was even born. It amazed me how quick King Kuntz wanted to kill his own sister because he knew her eighth child would be his slayer. King Kuntz killed all seven of their other children unfortunately. I think it was pretty cool that some people felt the joy in the air when Krishna was born. King Kuntz would wake up in nightmares because of the news of the eighth child. He did not believe that a little girl would be the reason why he would see death. I couldn't imagine the fear he had to feel when Durga told Kuntz that his slayer was already born and somewhere safe. Kurtz went on a killing spree and started killing all the little babies in the village. He was that scared of his killer. This week I would like to write my story based off of the fear of King Kuntz. It is pr...

Reading notes: Mahabharata Part 2

Image
In the beginning of Mahabharata Part 2, we learned about Kuntis past. Durvasa gives a visit to Kunti and blesses her. This is unexpected because no one really talked to Durvasa. They were scared of him because he was known to lay curses on on people for little to none reasons. Therefore, people stayed out of his way. Everyone except for Kunti and that is what makes her special. When I was listening to the Mahabharata Part 2, I thought to myself Durvasa is a interesting character. In my past stories I have always talked about what was really going on in the stories. I never took a look at the characters that was not necessarily the main character. So, my idea for this next story telling, I would like to pluck one of the non-maincharacters and talk about them. For an example, I can talk about Durvasa and research his background story. I could find out why he is the way he is. Why he is so quick to put curses on people around him.           ...

Reading notes: Mahabharata Part 1

Image
This week in the Mahabharata, I have started to watch the unfortunate story of King Shantanu. He fell in love with the live goddess and married her but the Queen kept killing they children and he stopped the 8th child from being killed. This part of the story is essential to the rest of the story because without this part of the story there is no backbone.  I like how they started of the story telling by saying this story is about Karma and the results of actions that were previously taken. When I retell my story, it is a must that I include the Karma part in the plot. I don't think the story would be the same if not. As I kept listening to the stories I began to think that this week I could make a poem for my retelling because this story reminds me of so much heart break. Then King Shantanu was over joyed when his long lost son returned.                                    Ki...

The Mahabharata: Part D

Image
Below my reading notes will be about the story of the Arjuna and Karna. I enjoyed reading this story because it reminded me of Achilles and Hector in the Trojan War. The Achaeans slaughtered the Trojans and desecrated the temples. Therefore, they earned their gods' wrath. I love this story because the Trojans showed their dedication to their great city Troy and they were powerfully lead by Priam. While reading the battle between Arjuna and Karna I could picture the arrows flying back and forth between each other. I plan to rewrite this story by amping up this battle scene! I am thinking about switching the setting to maybe a old time western theme. I want to  paint this picture of Arjuna and Karna coming in on horses with their riffles. When Arjuna said, " Pause, O Karna. According to the rules of battle, thou canst not attach a disabled foeman." I want to create that moment again in my story but using a different saying. Karna was very determined to fight and kill Arju...

The Mahabharata: Part C

Image
Below I will be talking about the stories Krishna and His Army. Krishna and his Army:  Since we have been reading the Mahabharata we have seen the relationship between them become more and more intense. While reading this episode of the Mahabharata I really got to the unity between Arjuna and Krishna. I admired the fact that Arjuna bowed at the feet of Shri Krishna because that showed respect to how Krishna is higher up than him. Other than Duryodhana, going to the head of the bed. At that point I could  tell that Arjuna connected positively with Krishna. I appreciated the loyalty that Lord Krishna showed towards Arjuna when helping them. It reminded me of all the times I need help with school especially during an action center session when the TA's are scrambling to hep everyone in the classroom. I wasn't surprised when Arjuna chose Krishna over the army. I thought it was a wise choice. Duryodhana seems to be power hungry. In my story I want to keep the plot exactl...

Reading Notes: The Mahabharata Part B

Image
The stories that I am interested in is the story of Bhima and Hidima. This is the perfect opportunity to retell a story using the Wizard of Oz setting. When I was reading about the Pandavas escaping it reminded me of Dorothy and the rest of her crew escaping to get to Oz land. Throughout  my story I will have different creatures coming out of the forest playing the "man-eating asuras and rakshasas. I like how the original story is so vivid in how they explain, the painfulness of them traveling in the forest. I think the character for Bhima should be the lion because lions show strength even though the lion in the Wizard of Oz. Bhima carried all of the others on his back through the forest. I like how Bhima is portrayed as this character that watches over and protects the people that is in the forest with him.  The rakashsa's play an essential part in this story and as I was reading the rakshasa's reminded me of the monkeys and the trees that came a live in the movie. Th...

Reading Notes: The Mahabharata Part A

Image
I enjoyed reading Part A of The Mahabharata! The story that caught my attention most is "Bhima and the Nagas". First, I would like to say, listening and reading to the story really has helped me visualize what was happening in the story. In the beginning of the story Duryodhana poisoned Bhimas food and tried to kill him. I am going to retell this story by keeping the plot the same but just changing the characters and setting. Duryodhana obviously had much hate towards Bhima because he casted him to the Ganges. In my story I can have Bhima poisoned and casted to the spiders den. Instead of having the spiders bite him and the poison from the snakes balance out his consciousness, I could have the poison from the snakes to be the reason why the spiders don't bite him but have the spider webs squeeze the poison out of his body for him to regain consciousness. Then he could burst out of the spider webs and scatter the spiders. Then be approached by someone, I'm not sure ...

Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues Part B

Image
After watching Part B of Sita Sings the Blues, I realized I could write a part B to my Willy Wonka story. I like how the story showed the commitment and despair of Sita. In my story I want to show that same despair however, I can switch the story up and make it to where the children she is pregnant with is actually for Ravana. That would be a pretty cool plot twist because she would have to prove her purity to Rama once again and she would not be able to. After  that I can make the story really my own because I can decided whether or not Rama will take back Sita or if she will go back to Ravana. Another switch up I thought about doing is making the twins that Sita had actually be rebels instead of learning to speak highly of Rama. It would be rather easy to come up with that , if I decided to make Ravana their father and not Rama. In Sita Sings the Blue they are found singing "Rama is just". I was thinking I should make them chant unruly things about Rama. I think it would be...

Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues

Image
Sita Sings the Blues is an entertaining short film. I really enjoyed how they talked about the story and then the characters acted it out. The story is very similar to the book we read. In my next story I would like base it off of the  character Ravana, because watching the movie made  me realize something. I realized that Ravana never did anything wrong except take Sita. Even when Sita rejected him he did not force himself upon her. I was surprised he did not because he had the audacity to take Sita from Rama. I am thinking about retelling this story by making the character in my story have one really bad flaw but id genuinely a good person. I think we kind of oversaw the fact that Ravana is not a bad person around the clock. The bad flaw in my story will represent him kidnapping Sita. Reading Notes: Ramayana Part B

Image
I decided to lay out my notes differently this time. I wanted to focus more on the characters to see what they reminded me of when considering characteristics and what can I relate them to. In Sugreeva's Story, I was thinking about making Vali weak as a plot twist because they admired him because of how strong and swift he is. He also worshipped Shiva, and re-writing the story for Vali to turn his back on him would be interesting as well. Since, Vali would not be this strong character I could depict Mayavi as the character of strength and he could overcome Vali. I was surprised when Rama shot the bow and it traveled a far distance but did not pierce anyone or anything. I think I can use that in the retelling of the story but Im quite sure how yet.                                                                     ...
