Week 5 Planning: Ramayana culture
In this post I want to talk about the influence of the Ramayana on Hindu beliefs. Hinduism is practiced commonly in South Asia.
The interesting things I have found out about Hinduism are, it is the oldest religion, some refer to it as the "eternal religion" because it is know to extend beyond the history of humans beings. Hinduism is also know to be a combiniation of many Indian cultures and traditions. The Ramayana tradition of this culture is taught widely through-out South Asia just like the tales of homer was taught. Rama who is one of the main characters in the Ramayana is a god who is idolized and his lessons have a huge impact on Hindu beliefs. I am suprised to say that Vishnu is apart of the Hindu trinity. The other two gods that are apart of it is Shiva and Brahama. Rama is the seventh avatar of Vishnu. in the Ramayana he came to Earth as a god of strength and he defeated Ravana who was embodied with demonic behavior. Rama is a very positive character in the Ramayana. He is know to have wonderful characteristics such as a faithful husband, fearlessness, leadership and a fierce warrior. Rama always won the battles he was put in. He is the symbol of the highest qualities in the Hindu religion.
The history of the Ramayana is interesting because it dates back to 1500 B.C and goes to 300 A.D. However, some may claim that the stories date back much longer than that. The UCLA Division of Social Sciences website about India, claims that the Ramayana is the example of hoe to live a spiritual life and hot to fulfill one's dharma. I noticed as I was reading that it was filled with many lessons and drama that included love. I think people could learn from the lessons in the Ramayana.

Image Information: Hanuman, Rama, Sita and Lakshman statues are common throughout India.
