Indian Epics: Topic Brainstorm
Topics
Krishna and Rukmini:
I am interested in this story because it reminds me of the story Romeo and Juliet. As humans we are always wanting things that are not necessarily good for us, like Rukmini and Krishna. Rukmini is Krishnas mortal enemy. I do not know much about this topic and but I can't wait to learn more about how Krishna fights for Rukmini heart. The way I am going to retell the story is to relate it to a struggling softball player, wanting to hit a home run over the fence. The point of the story will be to emphasize perseverance to reach a goal.

Parashurama: Sixth Incarnation of Vishnu:
The story of Bhrigu is interesting to me because I find it a little humorous that, Bhrigu gives his daughter-in-law and her mother sacred rice to bear children. I am interested in learning what it is about rice that helps he fertility of women. This story also talks about incarnation and I am a little familiar with the idea of incarnation from a spiritual point of view and from my religious studies class. I find the idea of incarnation interesting because it is embodiments into other structures. I often wonder what it is exactly, that declares what a spirit embodies a specific structure. I plan on retelling this story by reversing the characters embodiments and including rice, because rice signifies something very important in this story.

Guide: Sons of Rama: Luv and Kush
The story of the Luv and Kush twins seem to be a story of Kingship. Luv and Kush was taught by Ram himself so they could learn the ways of the land. Lets not forget the despairing disappearance of Sita. Its interesting how Sita and Rama both disappears. I would like to retell this story and keep all the emotion filled and drama at the same time. I think this story deserves vivid diction that would make my audience feel as if they are the triplet to fearless duo, Luv and Kush.

Vali: The Downfall of an Arrogant King
This story is interesting to me because it has some parallels to my religion, Christianity. Towards the end of the story it talks about the characters returning to heaven or going to hell for their sins. A significant part of this story that also reminded me of Christianity, is the scene with the "voice in the lake" and Ajuna gets angry and takes a drink of the lake water and dies. This takes me back to the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve had to suffer the consequences of Adam eating the forbidden fruit. My idea of retelling this story is to emphasize consequences to actions.
