Week 2 Story : The Decieving Homeless Man

Image
Every football game day, a homeless man would stand outside Lloyd Noble.  Early in the morning he would begin to yell, "The sky is burning! Do you know what happens when the sky burns?" The skies started brewing up dark orange clouds and winds started picking up furiously! The thunder sound like a train wreck. The fans started to believe him, and began to buy protective rain coats to him. The homeless man began to run towards campus yelling "The Sky is burning!"  Will Smith heard him yelling at the top of his lungs and he asked, "What in the world are you talking about?"  The sky is going to pour out Sulfuric Acid! You need to buy a protective rain rain coat to protect yourself. Come with me to save other people.  Will Smith started running with him and Tom Hanks asked why are you all running the sky is burning! He began to run with the fans and too!  More and more fans began to run towards the stadium until there was a...

Reading Notes: Interesting Ideas

Image
The Foolish Timid Rabbit The story is entertaining for the audience in my opinion, it reminded me of the movie "Chicken Little", when he would always yell "The Sky Is Falling!". This story made me think about a few things, one being, as humans we sometimes tend to follow false tellings or believe things that are not true and run with it. Just like the animals were doing with the rabbit. I think it would have been a great idea to change the ending as well. Possibly, to do something like shaking up the King Lion when they returned to the rabbits sleeping place or maybe having the Earth actually break apart. (https://sites.google.com/view/jatakas/rabbit) Two Turtle Jatakas In my opinion, these two stories are five star stories. The ending of both stories were great! I liked how the Author manipulated to king and his sons to thinking it was worse for the Turtle to be in the water. The ending of The Turtle and The Geese caught me by surprised but it was a lesso...

Reading Options

While reading through what we will be encountering through out the semester, a few things caught my attention. I was not aware that we could check out Kindles, with books downloaded on it already! I am excited to use this resource in "OUr" Library! For week three and week four, I am planning on choosing the Narayan. Ramayana (Kamban). In the comments it says this reading is an excellent introduction to the Ramayana based on the Tamil version. Also, reading the Reading Guide was quite entertaining, the best part is on pg.5, where it says Dasharatha gets special rice to get his wives pregnant. (http://iereadingguides.blogspot.com/2015/05/narayan-ramayana-kamban.html).  For week 5, I started watching "Sita Sings the Blues" and I am already impressed by the animation. Watching part of the video made me want to skip to week 5 of this class! I see these stories will be filled with drama, I have skimmed over Rama's Exile. It has to be hard for Dasharatha to exile Ra...

Time Strategies

Image
I am going to take advantage of the weekly calendar and the suggestion in email from our professor to plan put my studying time for this class. I found it helpful, the input our professor individually sent  to us about the time we can allot to do class work. Sundays will be the best day for me to do my reading which is great because the readings are due on Tuesdays. I like the idea of "Pre-commiting, publicly" to help stop any procrastination. I think doing that would hold me accountable. Also, it's always a great idea to the things you dislike the most before you do the things you like doing the most. Time management will be key to this course! I also have a planner for all my classes to stay on track with my assignments.                                                                           ...

Thoughts on Technology

I thought it is rather considerate that our professor mentioned she does not use Canvas all the time because we will most likely not use it after graduating. I appreciate that she does not because she is completely right about that. It is also a great idea to Bookmark the websites we visit for quick access. The Audio recordings will be helpful for me in this class and I like how they are on Sound Cloud because I am already a user of the app. I am also a huge fan of Google Docs! My first impression of this online class is, this class is going to be a great experience because of our professors teaching style. The web skills that I want to work on most are my citations and researching skills. I think this quote below describes our Professor perfectly!                                                                    ...

Thoughts on assignments

The most intriguing part of this class will be the Storytelling we do! I am excited to read some of my classmates stories. I think it is great that we get to this because we get to be creative along with learning. The Extra-Credit opportunities are great as well, we get to choose from a variety of ways to earn it. I am most interested in doing the Growth Mindset blogs and Famous Last Words.                                                                                                                   Image info: Amy Aanenson (http://peachyspeechyala.blogspot.com/2013/01/focusing-on-effort-with-students.html) Effort meter for her class.

Growth Mindset ... My Thoughts

Image
I enjoyed watching " Carol Dweck TED Talk, "The Power of Believing That You Can Improve". The video helped me think about how our school system does have a flaw. I like the concept of "not yet" because the phrase "not yet" still gives an individual some hope that they can still learn. Rather than telling an individual, "you fail". I agree with Carol when she mentions that we shouldn't cheat ourselves by always celebrating the fact that we got a good grade because of knowledge we already have on a certain subject. We should be excited when presented with challenges and endure through them to learn more.                                                                                      (Knowledge is Power: Knowoneteachone ...

Introduction To a Future Pharmacists

Image
Hello bloggers! My name is Taylor Calvert and I am a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences. My majors are Chemical Biosciences, Pre-Pharmacy and a Spanish minor. The coolest thing about my major is I am learning about the human body everyday. I personally think everyone needs to know more about the human body to properly take care of themselves. The cool thing about having a Spanish minor is being able to communicate with a larger audience. The best class I took last semester is Human Anatomy because I learned so much about the human body hands on. I was grateful to have the opportunity to work on a cadaver, to see what the inside of our bodies really look like. I absolutely love to cook and to garden in my spare time! Ever since I was a little girl I have always loved flowers. My grandmother and I would always spend time gardening together.                                      ...

Storybook Favorites

Fairytale Case Files : India The title of this Story book justifies the literature very well because the stories are exactly what the title says, " Fairytale Case Files" and they are taking place in India. This topic of Fairytale is not completely new to me. I took a Religious Studies class that used some of verbiage used in these case files. The introduction to this Storybook was okay, it did prompt me to read these stories. The Author laid out the foundation in the intro for the rest of the case files, rather than giving a synopsis. I find the mysteries that Wolfgang has to solve intriguing. I like the visual picot used in the introduction of the three elephant heads, it made the story easier to picture. The layout was pretty simple it is a dialogue. However, what I do like about the rest of the Story book is the Author notes at the end of the stories. I will definitely use that in my own project. It help me and I'm sure the audience understand the picture that the Au...

Paris, France... My Favorite Place

Image
Until a few months ago I never set foot off The United States of America soil. I flew to France and, I remember the first thing I thought to myself was, be opened minded to the French culture. Little did I know that France was going to be my favorite place, Paris to be exact. It is so breath taking. The scenery is not the only thing that is breath taking it is the culture and people as well. The Eiffel Tower lights up beautifully at night.                                                      ( image information: Personal photo                                                        of the Eiffel Tower: Photo from May 2017) When I arrived at the biggest museum in the world, The Lourve. I was super excited because...
